LumenUs: The Startup Automating Tedious Paperwork After a Loss

LumenUs has launched a platform to automate the tedious paperwork that must be done after a loved one passes away. Founder Sara Tashakorinia describes the experience as getting "this honorary badge of a project manager for a project you had no idea about." This tool promises to ease a burden that affects millions of families each year.

The Origin of LumenUs

Sara Tashakorinia experienced firsthand the bureaucratic maze that follows a family loss. After dealing with dozens of forms, calls, and procedures, she decided to create a tech solution. Thus LumenUs was born, a platform that centralizes and automates post-mortem tasks, from canceling subscriptions to notifying financial institutions.

How the Paperwork Automation Works

LumenUs uses artificial intelligence and process automation to guide users through administrative tasks. The platform connects with entities like banks, insurers, and utility services to streamline notifications. It also offers a dashboard where users can track the progress of each task. According to Tashakorinia, the goal is for families to focus on grieving, not bureaucracy.

An Ignored but Huge Market

Every year, millions of people die leaving behind a trail of administrative obligations. Until now, this niche has been overlooked by technology. LumenUs arrives to fill that need, but faces the challenge of integrating with legacy systems and gaining user trust during a vulnerable time. If it succeeds, it could become a standard.

The Future of Post-Mortem Management

The digitization of these processes could extend to other life events like divorces or international relocations. LumenUs not only eases pain but also lays the groundwork for an industry of automated legal and administrative services. The question is whether institutions will be willing to collaborate.
